Wombats To Play Albert Hall

THE WOMBATS are to play the Albert Hall as part of a new drive which aims to re-establish the venue as a place for new, up and coming bands.

The Liverpudlian three-piece will become the first act to play at the venue under the Albert Sessions initiative.

Under the scheme, selected acts will benefit from a 50 per cent cut in the normal rental fee for the hall. In return, bands agree to cap ticket prices.

The initiative aims to encourage a demographic of fans who would not normally go to the Royal Albert Hall, with plans for bands to take part in day-long sessions with local children.

Lucy Noble, head of programming for the 5,200-capacity Royal Albert Hall, said she wants to "reach out" to children who may feel "intimidated" by the concert hall.

THE WOMBATS met at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and are best known for hits such as BACKFIRE AT THE DISCO, and LET'S DANCE TO JOY DIVISION.
